The Buick Motor Division was the financial backbone on which General Motors was established. It was said to have an all-star cast of management with names like William C. Durant, GM's founder, Charles W. Nash, founder of American Motors, Walter P. Chrysler, founder of Chrysler Corporation, Harlow H. Curtice, GM's executive, Louis Chevrolet, who with Durant started Chevrolet Motor Company, and of course David Dunbar Buick.
From it's inception, Buick was an industry innovator. The creation of the "valve-in-head" engine led to Buick's notoriety for power. That recognition of power, as well as quality, has continued throughout the . Buick has built more than 35 million vehicles since 1904. It trademark car, the LeSabre, has ranked number one in U.S. full-size car sales for eight straight years. Going into the 21st century, Buick has redesigned the LeSabre to add torque and horse power.
