Cadillac was established in 1899 under the moniker Detroit Automobile Company. The oldest automobile manufacturer to begin in Detroit, Cadillac was purchased by General Motors in 1909. Since then, the company, which was named after the French explorer who founded Detroit, has been a leader in the production of full-size luxury cars. It has also been a leader in automotive technology, from their 1905 introduction of the multi-cylindered motorcar to their recent NorthStar System.
Their 2000 product line includes the Catera, a midsize luxury sedan, the Eldorado, a 2-door luxury coupe, the DeVille, a 4-door luxury sedan, the Seville, a luxury performance sedan, and the Escalade, a luxury sport utility vehicle.
