When Walter P. Chrysler purchased the struggling Maxwell Motor Corporation and founded the Chrysler Corporation in 1925, he was already known for having technical ability and a keen marketing mind. When his first model, the Chrysler Six, was denied entry into the 1924 New York Automobile Show, Chrysler parked the car in the lobby of the Hotel Commodore, where many investors and auto show exhibitors and were staying. This led to financial backing for future Chrysler planning.
Since its dubious beginnings, Chrysler has been on a roller coaster ride, pulling itself out of near financial ruin in the early 80s with the help of Lee Iacocca and Chrysler's ground-breaking introduction of the minivan. Now in its 76th year, Chrysler looks to continue to prosper in the future on the strength of the popular Chrysler models like the Town & Country minivan, the midsize Sebring, the sporty 300M, and their press darling, the PT Cruiser.
