Hummer Used
Hummer began in the military in 1979, when the U.S. Army detailed the requirements for the High Mobility Multipurpose
Wheeled Vehicle (HMMWV).
It needed to be built with ruggedness, agility, reliability and longevity in mind.
AM General set out to design the vehicle, and by 1985, it received a production contract for 55,000 vehicles.
The "Humvee," as the soldiers named it, has been an essential tool in recent global militaristic action.
AM General decided in 1991 to produce the Humvee for the public, allowing civilians to "experience the exceptional
off-road performance and problem-solving abilities of a military-based utility vehicle."
