Mazda, a leader in passenger and commercial vehicle production, began in 1920 as a cork manufacturing plant in
Hiroshima, Japan. By 1931, Mazda began producing three-wheeled trucks, and in the 60s and 70s, began manufacturing
sport coupes.
Mazda began manufacturing the 626 sedan 1977, a model it still makes today. In 1978, Mazda introduced the RX-7, a
popular model that was discontinued in 1995.
Mazda was brought back to life in the early 90s with the production of the Miata roadster, and continued with the
Protégé sedan and MPV minivan. Look ahead for the Tribute compact SUV and the RX-Evolv sports car.
